Staff of UNICEF China gathered in-person and online for a briefing on Child Development Account (CDA) policy by scholars from the Center for Social Development (CSD) at Washington University in St. Louis and Peking University.

UNICEF China hosted the event at its Beijing offices on December 5, 2025, and streamed it to staff around the globe.

Michael SherradenLi Zou, and Suo Deng presented evidence on the policy’s potential to enhance children’s development globally. Worldwide, they said, over 30 million children now benefit from CDAs, a policy innovation that Sherraden pioneered and that CSD has developed through extensive research. The policy has been implemented in several forms by several U.S. states, as well as by countries as diverse as Kazakhstan and Israel.
