Leader in biochemistry will travel to Brazil to teach and develop research collaborations

Benjamin Garcia, PhD, the Raymond H. Wittcoff Distinguished Professor and head of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been selected as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar for the 2025-2026 academic year. The award, granted by the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Program, will provide the opportunity for Garcia to work in Brazil this summer and next summer to cultivate new research collaborations and teach a course in proteomics.

Garcia specializes in quantitative mass spectrometry — a tool used to identify, quantify and analyze proteins. His work has led to key observations about the regulation of cell differentiation, tissue growth and cancer development. In addition to numerous research contributions, Garcia is known for his dedication to teaching and mentorship.
