As Peking University planned a December event to celebrate the centennial of social work education there, they sought out a keynote speaker with first-hand knowledge of the university’s impact on the social work profession and applied research. They chose Michael Sherraden.

“It is a great honor to have Professor Sherraden join us for this centennial celebration of social work education at Peking University, where together we witness the extraordinary development of China’s social work profession,” said Suo Deng, associate professor of social work, co-director of China Social Work Research Center at Peking University, and faculty director with the Center for Social Development.

“The collaboration between Peking University and CSD has been remarkably productive over a long time, generating significant academic and policy impact in social policy and social work,” Deng added. “This partnership exemplifies the best of international exchange and cooperation in our field.”

“We have worked with colleagues at Peking University over several decades,” Sherraden explained. “They have become one of the world’s pre-eminent centers for social work education. Innovations developed there continue to reshape the profession globally.” Sherraden is the George Warren Brown Distinguished University Professor at Washington University in St. Louis and the founder and co-director of the Center for Social Development in the university’s Brown School.
